off to switch pacemaker cells on
What if we could stop implanting pacemakers and create biological pacemakers by turning existing cardiomyocytes into specialized pacemaker cells? A US team of scientists have been doing just that, but along the way they discovered that for pacemaker cells to ‘switch on’, you first need to suppress some rebellious microRNAs.
